In the UK alone there are 3.3 million people diagnosed with diabetes and it is estimated that there is an additional 590,000 people who have the condition but are not aware.
Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your body is too high because the body can’t use it properly. This happens when your pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin to help glucose enter your body’s cells. Diabetes is a serious condition that requires life-long treatment.
Taking Control – manage your condition well
This year, the focus of World Diabetes Day will be diabetes education. The campaign Taking Control will be launched leading up to World Diabetes Day, ensuring more people get access to diabetes education to help manage their condition. Through people sharing their experience of living with diabetes and receiving diabetes education, it is the aim of the campaign to make sure those living with diabetes have access to the tools they need to manage their condition well.
