As Andy Murray bathes in the glory of his second Wimbledon Men’s Singles victory, we give an extra round of applause to
15 year-old Francesca Jones from Bradford.
Francesca was born with ectrodactyly ectodermal dysplasia syndrome (a rare condition that effects the development of hands and feet). Francesca has just 3 fingers and a thumb on each hand, and three toes on her right foot. Yet in the face of the obvious challenges her condition presents, Francesca battled her way through the first round of Junior Wimbledon.
Francesca’s sporting achievement goes to show how far grit, determination and a postive attitude can get you.
Speaking of her disability Francesca says:
I dont mind being defined by it because it is something that I am actually proud of, but I am not going to let it get me down in any way because it is not a negative. I have had so many people criticise me and say things. That just motivates me more. I just think watch me do it. You have got to keep on using it to your advantage.”
Well done Francesca and we wish you every success for future tournaments!
