Reflecting on the Future You Careers Event by Rachana Narendra
I had the privilege of attending the Future You 2024 event on June 20th, at KPMG in Canary Wharf. This unique event connected me with some of the world’s leading employers, Accenture, bp, Forvis Mazars , J.P. Morgan , and KPMG, providing invaluable insights into the professional world and disability inclusion. Even though it’s been a while since the event, the insights and inspiration I gained are still fresh in my mind.
Here’s what made it truly memorable:
- Recognizing My Strengths: I gained valuable insights into my strengths and areas for improvement, shaped by my experiences with clubfoot. It reminded me how overcoming personal challenges has made me more resilient and resourceful.
- Inspiring Stories: Hearing from individuals who’ve successfully navigated their careers while managing disabilities was incredibly inspiring. Their stories gave me hope and practical insights on how to balance my career ambitions with my personal journey.
- Understanding Support: The sessions provided valuable information on how to effectively disclose my disability and access the right support. This understanding is crucial for me as I strive to create an inclusive and supportive work environment.
- Boosting Confidence: Participating in confidence-building sessions significantly enhanced my self-belief and motivation. It showed me how I can use my experiences in ways I hadn’t fully noticed before.
Reflecting on this experience, I feel more empowered and optimistic about my career path. For anyone navigating their career with a disability, remember there are wonderful opportunities and supportive networks out there. Let’s continue to push boundaries and reach our full potential!
Here’s to embracing our strengths and moving forward with confidence!
