The Launch of the Heads Together Campaign by Helen Cooke CBE

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry have this week launched the ‘Heads Together’ campaign.

Heads Together unites a number of leading mental health charities to campaign to end the stigma surrounding mental health and provide support. Working with young people, emergency response, homeless charities and veterans, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the fact that mental health problems which go unresolved lie at the heart of some of our greatest social challenges.

The Heads Together campaign will try to help people feel comfortable with their everyday mental health. At the launch on the 16th May at London’s Olympic Park, the Duchess of Cambridge was there to try her hand at boxercise, promoting the idea that exercise is one of the ways in which mental health can be managed. A spokesperson for mental health charity Mind said:

“research shows that outdoor exercise can be as effective as antidepressants in treating mild to moderate depression and anxiety”.

The campaign launch has taken place during Mental Health Awareness Week #MHAW16 and is certainly helping to spark conversation about how we view and cope with mental illness. Heads Together has also been named as 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon Charity of the Year, putting mental health and wellbeing in the spotlight.
