My name is Don Biswas. I graduated from University of Liverpool with a Business Studies degree. I now work as a part time administration assistant and a stand-up comedian. University was a tough experience both academically and socially as I had three undiagnosed difficulties, but through my sheer determination I managed to graduate. I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia (coordination and organisation difficulties), mild Asperger’s aged 25 and later on in life with ADHD.
Fast forward a few years later after graduating, aged 25 I was sacked from a job, had a lack of friends and being diagnosed with two difficulties meant that I started to suffer from depression. Luckily, I discovered stand-up comedy at the same time. Due to lack of making eye contact and overall communications problems, meant I was never a natural performer, but slowly got better at it, in time.
I have problems, taking things too literally, (an Asperger’s trait), which helps me write, well-crafted jokes, which I feel is what makes me stand out from the crowd of other comedians.
It also felt that talking about my life experiences, with learning difficulties and how it has affected me has given me a unique perspective on life that audiences have never heard of before.
Also working as a part-time admin assistant for Williams Lea/EY has helped me work better in a team.
