Profiles / Stories
It’s always great to hear from those who have been successful.
This section profiles many individuals, working across different industries, at various stages of their careers. Their interviews demonstrate that is possible to have a successful career regardless of whether or not you have a disability. They also illustrate the adjustments that can be made in the workplace.

I joined Accenture straight out of university having done a summer internship with them. I liked the mix of technology and business, working with real customers and clients directly, while still getting plenty of the tech side of things.
I have Seasonal Affective Disorder, treated with a combination of light therapy, medication, talking therapy and lifestyle changes. I use my light box in the office, and my line manager is aware of my situation and supportive of flexible working when needed.
Accenture have been really supportive, providing a second light box for the client site when I’ve been travelling a lot, and making sure I have somewhere secure to store it. My manager has also been good about helping me arrange time off for therapy appointments.
Try and be open about your mental health with colleagues – most people are more supportive than you think, and it enables you to discover how much help there is out there. Services like the EAP and private health insurance through work can be very good.
Delivering a big release of our code into the live environment – seeing months of hard work pay off as the deployment was successful and customers started to benefit.
When part of the project is going badly it gets stressful for everyone. You need to keep positive and constructive. Everyone makes mistakes and we do our best to resist any temptation to discuss blame and instead find a solution as a team.
